The Red Lion Inn was founded on a very simple principle of offering all visitors a wholesome meal, good well kept beer and warm relaxing friendly surrounding in which to unwind. These very same principles are still in place today and will, as long as the Burns family are in residence, never be compromised.

Our History

The Red Lion is a solid, stone building originating 300 Years ago as a sheep drovers pub and later as a stagecoach inn on the old road midday between Edinburgh & Newcastle, on the edge of Northumberland National Park. It was also popular with WW2 fighter pilots based at Milfield Airfield, which is now home to the Borders gliding club. The Red Lion is within easy reach of fishing on both the Till & Tweed plus walking routes in the Cheviot Hills and Battle Field of Flodden. The Red Lion offers a friendly welcome to all. It is an ideal stop for travellers and visitors to rest and sample a selection of real ales including guest ales from national and local breweries. Food at The Red Lion is freshly prepared using locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Visitors can relax and indulge on such treats as honey roast pork belly, homemade steak and ale pie...or pan fried salmon fillet, with garlic king prawns, followed by decadent homemade desserts.
